Accessibility Toilets

Finding accessible toilets can be difficult.

Here are some useful resources for the Radar Key scheme, standard accessible toilets, and for Changing Places toilets which are larger with adult changing facilities.

Radar Key Scheme

The National Key Scheme (NKS) offers disabled people independent access to locked public toilets around the country. Find out more on:

RADAR Keys from DAS

We are now able to offer RADAR Keys through the DAS office. Supplies are limited, please contact us before coming in for one!

Changing Places Toilets

Changing Places toilets are different from standard disabled toilets as they provide:

an adult-sized, height adjustable bench and a hoist
a centrally placed toilet with room either side and screen or curtain to allow privacy and enough space (at least 12m²)
a safe and clean environment including wide roll of tear off paper to cover the bench, a large waste bin and a non-slip floor.

Find a Changing Places toilet

The Changing Places website has a map of the UK showing the locations of Changing Places toilets that they are aware of. There is also a ‘Find a Toilet’ facility similar to using Google Maps or a GPS system.

Please note in East Suffolk (and elsewhere) you may need a special key (not a RADAR key) to access a Changing Places toilet. See more on East Suffolk Council Public Conveniences page.

The Great British Public Toilet Map

The map shows toilets that the public can use. This includes venues that let non-customers use their toilet, such as in Community Toilet Schemes. The map does not generally include accessible toilets that are for customer use only.

The data comes from councils, businesses, the OpenStreetMap project and the public.

There is a facility on their website to add information or amend information which is incorrect.
